More than a list of services
We Look at the Whole Problem. Not Just One Operation.
A manufacturing solutions enquiry might involve an urgent machine component, a batch of welded assemblies, a protective enclosure or a complex item requiring processes from several suppliers. The first question should not be which machine can make it. The first question is what the customer actually needs to achieve.
Our manufacturing solutions approach brings practical workshop knowledge into that conversation. We review the available information, identify the processes likely to be required and consider how the work can be completed sensibly. Sometimes the entire job stays in our workshop. Sometimes the better route involves external specialist processes as well.
That flexibility is what makes manufacturing solutions valuable to purchasing teams, maintenance managers and manufacturers. A project is rarely improved by forcing every part of it through the same process or expecting the customer to manage each operation alone. Where suitable, Wards can coordinate the manufacturing route and keep the commercial and practical requirements connected.
Flexible manufacturing routes.
Actual Wards work · Real customer outcomes
Four Challenges. Four Practical Manufacturing Solutions.
These are not hypothetical applications. They are examples of how Wards has helped customers overcome an everyday manufacturing problem, cut costs, replace a needed item or improve equipment through practical workshop solutions.
A Cheaper Way to Produce a Customer's Part
The challenge: A customer needed a more cost-effective way to obtain a part they were already using.
What Wards did: We used 3D printing to manufacture an alternative version of the part, using a different manufacturing process to reduce the customer's costs. This is a practical example of considering more than the original production method when looking for manufacturing solutions.
The result: A lower-cost part for the customer's requirement.
A Replacement Lid for a Diesel Tank
The challenge: A customer required a replacement lid for an existing diesel tank rather than an unrelated standard component.
What Wards did: We manufactured a replacement lid to meet the customer's particular requirement. Jobs like this demonstrate the value of being able to review an existing item and provide a practical manufacturing solution rather than being limited to off-the-shelf products.
The result: A purpose-made replacement lid for the customer's tank.
A Floor-Marking Template That Slots Together
The challenge: A warehouse needed to produce floor markings whenever required, but transporting and storing a large one-piece template was inefficient.
What Wards did: We manufactured a template in sections that slot together. The modular arrangement allows the warehouse to assemble the template when markings are needed, then separate the sections for easier storage and lower-cost shipping.
The result: Repeatable floor markings, reduced shipping costs and easier storage.
Reinforcing a Scrap Skip Door Locking Mechanism
The challenge: The door-closing and locking arrangement on scrap skips needed reinforcement for the customer's application.
What Wards did: We reinforced the existing mechanism rather than treating the issue as a simple request for a new part. The work focused on improving the physical arrangement of the skip door's closing and locking components.
The result: A reinforced closing and locking mechanism for the scrap skips.
Photographs show real Wards projects. Scope, material suitability and any applicable safety or approval requirements are reviewed individually for new work.
Built around real customer requirements
Manufacturing Challenges We Help Customers Overcome
Most customers are not buying an isolated machine operation. They need an item that fits, an assembly that is complete, a replacement that gets production moving or a supplier who can manage the practical details. Our manufacturing solutions are built for these situations.
A Part That Is Difficult to Source
Manufacturing solutions are particularly valuable when an original supplier has disappeared or a component is obsolete; the route forward may not be obvious. Wards can review an existing sample, photograph, drawing or known dimensions to establish what information and manufacturing processes are needed for a potential replacement.
That might involve CNC machining, fabrication, sheet metal work, a polymer component or a combination of processes. We consider the intended use and any critical technical requirements before confirming whether the job is suitable. A sensible manufacturing route is more useful than promising to copy a component without understanding its application.
Too Many Suppliers, Too Many Handovers
One assembly can involve laser cutting, folding, machining, welding, coating, bought-in parts and final assembly. Coordinating those activities independently can create avoidable chasing, duplicated administration and uncertainty over who is supplying what.
Our manufacturing solutions can bring suitable stages together under an agreed project scope. Where outside processes are needed, Wards can source and coordinate appropriate specialist support. The aim is to reduce unnecessary handovers while keeping the specification, quantity, finish and required date visible throughout the job.
Production Capacity Is Under Pressure
Manufacturing solutions can be useful when established manufacturers face sudden demand, machine downtime, project peaks and production backlogs. Adding permanent equipment or staff is not always the right answer to a temporary or unpredictable increase in workload.
Wards can review one-off overflow requirements, batches of components and ongoing subcontract arrangements. We consider the most suitable processes, tooling, material supply and manufacturing sequence. Where capacity and the specification allow, this can give customers a flexible route to maintaining output without building every capability internally.
A Requirement That Does Not Fit One Workshop
Some manufacturing solutions require specialist finishes, materials, equipment or processes that are not available in a single facility. A conventional supplier might quote only its own stage and leave the customer to organise everything else.
Our manufacturing solutions model is different. We can assess which operations suit Wards and which may need support from specialist companies. Sourcing and coordination are agreed case by case, with responsibilities and any technical or certification requirements confirmed before work starts. The priority is a realistic route that serves the customer's actual requirement.
Flexible by nature
Three Ways We Deliver Manufacturing Solutions
The right route depends on the component, quantity, time available and specialist requirements. We do not need to pretend every operation is carried out in-house. We use our capability where it adds value and can bring in suitable suppliers when a project needs more.
In-House Manufacturing
For suitable manufacturing solutions, we process work through our CNC machines, 6kW fibre laser, press brakes, welding bays, fabrication equipment and additive manufacturing setup. Keeping multiple stages together can simplify communication and avoid unnecessary movement between suppliers.
- Single components and repeat batches
- Multi-process fabricated assemblies
- Prototype, repair and production support
Coordinated Manufacturing
Many manufacturing solutions sit between conventional workshop categories. For example, Wards might carry out profile cutting, machining and fabrication while specialist suppliers undertake an agreed surface treatment, process or other operation outside our facility.
- Multiple processes on one job
- Specialist finishing or additional operations
- Consolidated manufacturing enquiries
Specialist Supplier Support
When manufacturing solutions require a process outside the equipment or expertise available in-house, we can investigate an external manufacturing route. That might involve a specialist process, a particular manufacturing capacity or a supplier equipped for unusual project requirements.
Our role can include identifying possible suppliers, obtaining practical information and coordinating agreed stages. Supplier suitability, quality evidence, responsibilities, lead times and any regulated requirements are assessed for each job. We do not advertise unlimited capability or promise work before checking its feasibility.
- Specialist manufacturing enquiries
- Additional production capacity
- Project-specific supplier coordination
Where the solution becomes a part
Manufacturing Capabilities Behind the Solution
Strong manufacturing solutions depend on genuine production capability, not just a promise to find a supplier. Wards has substantial in-house workshop equipment and a team that understands how one process affects the next. These services can stand alone or form stages within a coordinated project.
01 / Precision production
CNC Machining
Our manufacturing solutions draw on milling and turning capabilities for brackets, blocks, shafts, bushes, replacement parts, drilled and tapped components, fixtures and production batches. We consider drawings, material grade, critical dimensions, expected quantity and practical machining sequence before quotation. Machining can also support welded structures and laser-cut components where accurate features are required after fabrication.
CNC machining capabilities →02 / Sheet and plate
6kW Fibre Laser Cutting
Our 6kW Photon HD fibre laser has a 4m × 2m cutting bed and supports suitable mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium sheet and plate. Profile cutting can provide single parts, nested batches, blanks for secondary processes and components that move directly into folding or fabrication.
Fibre laser cutting →03 / Fabricated components
Welding & Metal Fabrication
Our manufacturing solutions can use MIG and TIG welding, practical fabrication and assembly to support structures, equipment frames, brackets, guards, access items, pipe supports, enclosures and general industrial fabrications. We work from the agreed manufacturing information and review material, fit-up, access, finish and dimensional requirements relevant to the job.
Fabrication services → · Welding →04 / Forming & preparation
Sheet Metal Folding & Forming
Within our manufacturing solutions, press brake folding, guillotining, punching and rolling support trays, covers, guards, panels, channels, brackets and formed assemblies. These processes allow flat material to become useful three-dimensional components without treating every bend or hole as an isolated supplier requirement.
Sheet metal capability →05 / Functional polymers
Industrial 3D Printing
Functional polymer parts can be a practical choice within manufacturing solutions for manufacturing aids, jigs, fixtures, holders, covers, test pieces, prototypes and certain low-volume components. Our Bambu Lab equipment allows us to assess suitable printed routes alongside conventional fabrication or machining.
Industrial 3D printing →06 / Project completion
Finishing, Assembly & Sourcing
Manufacturing solutions do not always end when parts leave the laser, mill or welding bench. A useful result may also require deburring, hardware, protective finishes, mechanical assembly, checks, packaging or the coordination of specialist outside operations.
Ask about a complete assembly →One component. Several processes.
Less Time Managing the Manufacturing Route.
Consider a batch of equipment brackets: laser-cut blanks may need folded edges, drilled features, welded elements, inserts, deburring and a specified finish. The value comes from coordinating the entire requirement rather than treating every operation as an unrelated purchase.
That is what manufacturing solutions should mean in practice: a technically sensible process, clear responsibilities and components delivered to the agreed specification.

Where Our Manufacturing Solutions Make a Difference
Not every enquiry arrives as a neat purchase order for a known part number. These are typical kinds of requirements we can review, alongside the broader production work already undertaken by our team. Feasibility, supply arrangements and any customer approvals are assessed for each project.
Obsolete and Replacement Parts
A worn or unavailable component can stop equipment and interrupt output. Manufacturing solutions start with understanding what a suitable replacement must achieve. We can review samples and technical information to assess a suitable manufacturing route, whether that calls for machining, fabrication or another process. For safety-critical components, the required approvals and responsibilities must be established before manufacture.
Custom Equipment Components
Manufacturing solutions for equipment producers may involve mounting parts, structural frames, guards, covers, access items and fixtures to suit their own equipment. Our manufacturing solutions can bring cutting, forming, machining, welding and coordinated finishing together, using customer-approved requirements and drawings.
Low-Volume and Repeat Supply
Some parts are required once; others are needed repeatedly in changing quantities. We can review both. Material availability, setups, inspection, batch quantities and expected future demand can influence the most economical production route. Keeping clear job information helps repeat orders proceed more smoothly.
Production Jigs and Fixtures
Locating, protecting, holding or presenting parts correctly can make a production operation more repeatable. Wards can manufacture jigs, fixtures and handling aids from suitable customer requirements using metalworking, machining or functional polymer printing. We discuss the required fit, loading and working environment before agreeing a route.
Multi-Process Assemblies
Equipment housings, support frames and industrial assemblies may require several manufacturing processes, sourced components and a suitable finish. These are exactly the kinds of projects where one point of coordination can reduce administrative work and make the intended final deliverable easier to specify.
Urgent Production and Site Support
When planned work changes or equipment needs attention, buyers value quick communication and honest feasibility checks. We can review urgent fabricated or machined requirements, confirm available capacity and consider specialist support when appropriate. Lead time is quoted against the actual scope and current workload, not promised automatically.
Proof is in the work
See the Sort of Problems We've Helped Solve
Our published work archive includes industrial components and applications such as press equipment parts, practical production aids, jigs and fabricated assemblies. It provides a more useful picture of Wards than a list of machine specifications alone.
We do not need to claim we can make everything. We need to show that we understand unfamiliar requirements, ask the right questions and can assemble a practical manufacturing route when the job is suitable.

The Right Manufacturing Route Depends on the Job
Choosing a manufacturing process depends on what the component must do, the information supplied and the expected commercial and production constraints. Our manufacturing solutions start with those practical considerations rather than a standard catalogue of products.
Materials We Commonly Work With
Across our manufacturing solutions, mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium form a large part of our cutting, forming, welding and fabrication work. CNC machining also supports appropriate metals and engineering plastics, while industrial 3D printing gives additional options for selected functional polymer components.
Where the specification requires an unusual grade, bought-in component or specialist material process, we assess sourcing and feasibility separately. Material certification, traceability and any particular testing requirement should be identified at enquiry stage, so the correct route and evidence can be included where available and agreed.
What Matters to the Finished Component
The manufacturing route may be controlled by dimensional tolerance, strength requirements, corrosion resistance, surface finish, repeated use, fit with existing equipment, ease of installation or the delivery schedule. We need to understand which features are critical and where acceptable alternatives may exist within the customer's approved requirements.
For equipment, machinery or safety-related projects, the customer should identify applicable technical, regulatory and safety requirements. The HSE work equipment guidance → is a useful starting point for general machinery-safety responsibilities.

Both can benefit from manufacturing solutions that connect more than one workshop process or supplier.
The reason to work with Wards
People Who Want to Find a Route Forward
Equipment alone does not make manufacturing solutions effective. The difference is how the team interprets the requirement, communicates limitations, makes use of the available processes and keeps the project moving.
We Start by Understanding the Requirement
Practical manufacturing solutions can begin with a description of the issue, photos, a sample or a drawing. We will ask about the application, dimensions, quantity, material, finish and deadlines. If the information is not sufficient for safe or accurate manufacture, we explain what is missing rather than simply guessing.
We Manufacture, Not Just Introduce Suppliers
Wards operates a substantial workshop covering cutting, folding, machining, welding, fabrication and additive production. This provides a credible base for assessing what can be made in-house, which sequences work well and where specialist support might be worthwhile.
We Can Coordinate Specialist Input
A job is not automatically rejected because one operation falls outside the Wards workshop. Where appropriate, we can identify outside suppliers and coordinate specified tasks. We will discuss the scope of that involvement and any associated documentation or acceptance requirements before a commitment is made.
We Focus on Deliverables and Communication
It matters what will be supplied, when it is required and which requirements must be checked. We aim to agree the scope, clarify technical information and flag practical constraints early. One-off jobs and repeat supply programmes need different planning, so we review the route to suit the work rather than force a standard package.
Clear stages · No unnecessary complexity
Our Six-Step Manufacturing Solutions Process
Every project is different, but a clear framework helps us identify missing information, establish the manufacturing route and keep decisions visible. Some simple parts move through these steps quickly; complex jobs may need more technical clarification before quotation.
Tell Us the Challenge
Send a drawing, sample, photo, requirements, quantity or description of the issue. Explain where the component will be used and what needs to be achieved. Do not worry if you are unsure which manufacturing process is suitable.
Practical Review
We assess the available information, likely operations, material needs, potential restrictions and any missing specifications. Where relevant, we discuss technical responsibilities, required approvals and whether specialist outside input is necessary.
Manufacturing Route
We establish which processes can be handled in-house and whether any supplier involvement is appropriate. The aim is a realistic sequence that considers cost, lead time, availability, handling, finishing and the required final deliverable.
Scope & Quotation
We agree the technical information needed for manufacture, included operations, commercial terms, estimated lead time and any third-party requirements. The manufacturing solutions quotation reflects what has actually been reviewed and can be provided.
Production & Coordination
Work proceeds through the agreed operations. We coordinate appropriate in-house stages and, where part of the order, specified subcontract processes. Relevant checks, progress information and exceptions are handled in line with the agreed scope.
Check & Supply
Completed components are reviewed against agreed requirements and prepared for collection or delivery. Any inspection records, material evidence, finish requirements or other documentation are provided where included and applicable to the order.
Start with the requirement
You Don't Have to Know Which Supplier or Process You Need.
Some customers requesting manufacturing solutions know exactly which drawing and material to order. Others need a practical conversation about a component, a replacement, a set of assemblies or a manufacturing route involving several processes. Both are valid starting points for a manufacturing solutions enquiry.
Tell us what the item needs to do, what information exists and what deadline matters. We can then advise what further details will be needed for an accurate review and quotation. This is particularly important where fit, loading, safety, regulatory requirements or an existing machine are involved.

Questions buyers often ask
Manufacturing Solutions FAQs
These answers explain when Wards may be suitable, what information helps and how coordinated manufacturing work is considered. Actual project scope, supplier involvement and technical requirements are agreed before an order is accepted.
What does Wards mean by manufacturing solutions?
Manufacturing solutions means looking at the customer's overall requirement rather than quoting only a single machine operation. We can review the problem, plan a practical manufacturing route, carry out suitable work in-house and coordinate agreed specialist supplier processes where needed. The aim is to help deliver the required component or assembly with clearer communication and fewer unnecessary handovers. The exact responsibility and deliverable depend on the agreed project scope.
Can Wards help if I do not know which process I need?
Yes. Send the information you have: a drawing, sample, sketch, photographs, known dimensions or a description of the requirement. We can discuss which manufacturing routes may be suitable and identify missing information needed before production. Complex or safety-related jobs may require customer-approved technical documentation, competent specialist input or additional checks before a quotation can be confirmed.
What happens if a required process is not available in-house?
We can consider sourcing the process from an appropriate specialist supplier. That may include obtaining availability or price information and, where agreed, coordinating the process alongside our own work. We assess feasibility and relevant requirements for each enquiry; we do not promise that every specialist process or every project can be supplied. The quotation should make clear what is included and who is responsible for each requirement.
Do you manufacture one-off parts as well as repeat production batches?
Yes. Wards can review a one-off replacement component, a prototype item, a small batch or an ongoing subcontract production requirement. Quantity affects setups, stock, pricing and the suitable process. When requesting manufacturing solutions, it helps to give both your immediate quantity and any expected repeat demand so we can assess a practical route.
Can several processes be handled as one project?
Yes, where the work is suitable. A project might combine laser cutting, folding, drilling, CNC machining, welding, fabrication, finishing and assembly. We can also review whether specified specialist external operations should form part of the agreed order. The aim is to reduce the customer's need to separately manage every individual manufacturing stage, while being clear about the technical and commercial scope.
What drawings and files should I send for a manufacturing quote?
PDF drawings, DXF files, STEP or STP models, sketches, photographs and sample-part information can all be useful. Include material grades, quantities, key tolerances, required finish and the delivery deadline. If more than one component is involved, a drawing pack and bill of materials help us understand the complete job. For additive manufacturing, STL and 3MF files may also be suitable.
How are specialist suppliers and quality requirements managed?
We agree the required process, specification, any relevant approval or traceability needs, and the evidence expected with the work before committing to a supplier route. Inspection, certification, material records and regulated requirements must be defined for the specific job, rather than assumed to apply universally. Where outside manufacturing is included, the responsibilities and acceptance criteria form part of the agreed arrangement.
Which industries and locations can Wards support?
Wards supports suitable manufacturing requirements from equipment manufacturers, automation businesses, HVAC and mechanical contractors, industrial maintenance teams, process plants and other engineering supply chains. We are based near Milton Keynes and work with customers around Bedford, Northampton, Buckingham and the wider area. Selected project and repeat manufacturing work can also be supplied across the UK, depending on the job and delivery arrangements.
